Andar Bahar (also called "Katti" in some regions) is a simple card game traditionally from South India, now commonly offered as an extra table inside Teen Patti and multi-game apps alongside the main card game. A single card is drawn and placed face-up as the "house card." Players bet on whether a matching card will appear first on the Andar (inside/left) pile or the Bahar (outside/right) pile as cards are dealt alternately. The round ends and pays out as soon as a card matching the house card's rank appears on either pile. It's a two-outcome bet with simple, published odds, unlike Teen Patti's ranked hands and betting rounds.

How a Round of Andar Bahar Works

  1. A single card is drawn and placed face-up in the middle. This is the "house card," and its rank is what players bet on matching.
  2. Two piles are set up: Andar ("inside," usually shown on the left) and Bahar ("outside," usually shown on the right).
  3. Players place a bet on Andar or Bahar before dealing starts.
  4. Cards are dealt face-up one at a time, alternating between the two piles. Which pile receives the first card is typically determined by the house card's suit or a fixed house rule, so check the specific app's rule for that detail.
  5. The round ends the moment a card matching the house card's rank appears on either pile. Bets on that pile win; bets on the other pile lose.

Odds and Payouts

Andar Bahar has published, fixed odds rather than the variable, hand-dependent payouts of Teen Patti, since it's a straightforward two-outcome bet. Payout ratios differ slightly by app and by which side you bet (the side the first card wasn't dealt to statistically resolves faster, which is usually reflected in a slightly different payout ratio between the two sides). Check the specific app's paytable rather than assuming both sides pay identically.

Where You'll Find It

Andar Bahar is rarely a standalone app on its own. It's most commonly bundled as an additional table inside broader multi-game apps alongside Teen Patti, rummy variants and other casual games. See our Teen Patti directory for apps that typically include it as one of several tables.

Andar Bahar: FAQ

Is Andar Bahar the same as Teen Patti?

No. They're different games often bundled in the same app. Teen Patti deals three-card hands with ranked outcomes and multiple betting rounds; Andar Bahar is a single-card, two-outcome bet with fixed odds and no hand ranking.

Is Andar Bahar a game of skill or chance?

It's almost entirely chance. There's no meaningful decision after your initial Andar/Bahar bet, unlike Teen Patti's betting rounds and bluffing. This also affects how it's classified in some states' gaming law compared to skill games like rummy.

Which side should I bet on, Andar or Bahar?

There's no way to predict the outcome in advance. It's determined by the deck order, not a skill decision. Check the specific app's paytable, since the two sides sometimes pay very slightly differently to reflect their statistical resolve speed.
